About the project

Europa Barbarorum II is a total conversion mod for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms that plunges you into the Hellenistic world on the eve of the Second Syrian War, the First Punic War, and a host of other epoch-defining conflicts.

Successor to the legendary Europa Barbarorum for Rome: Total War, it is a distinct project built from the ground up by a dedicated new team. It inherits the same rigorous devotion to historical authenticity and period atmosphere, but leverages the Medieval II engine for vastly improved visuals, gameplay depth, mechanics, and immersion.

It is 272 BC. The funeral games of Megas Alexandros have long since concluded, and the victors of that savage struggle for his spear-won empire have either passed their spoils to their sons or been swept aside by usurpers.

In Syria, the Seleukids and Ptolemaioi muster their phalanxes and war elephants to contest the vital borderlands between their rival kingdoms. In Greece, Pyrrhos of Epeiros marches on Argos, while Antigonos Gonatas schemes to reclaim the throne of Makedonia. Meanwhile, the cities of the Hellenic League stand united in defiance, determined to preserve their freedom against Macedonian overlordship. Far to the west, the Roman Republic flexes its growing power across Italy and casts a hungry eye toward Sicily, where Carthage still holds the balance, the two republics bound for now by an uneasy friendship.

To the north and west, the Celtic tribes - the Aedui and Arverni of Gaul and the central European Boii - jostle for dominance among the hill-forts and sacred groves, their raiding bands a constant threat to their neighbours. Across the Rhine, the confederations of the Sweboz and Lugiones stir in the deep forests and river valleys, eyeing opportunities for expansion and plunder. Along the lower Danube, the Getai sharpen their spears, ever ready to raid south into Thrace or defend their river strongholds. In the Iberian Peninsula, the Lusitani and Arevaci hone their guerrilla tactics in the rugged highlands, wary of both Phoenician traders and emerging Mediterranean powers.

In the east, the smaller Anatolian kingdoms of Pergamon, Pontos, and Hayastan labour under Seleukid suzerainty, quietly building strength and awaiting any sign of weakness to seize land and assert their independence. Farther east still, the Seleukid satrap in Baktria rules a vast and distant province, increasingly independent in practice as he consolidates power and resources. In Arabia, the Nabataeans of the north and the Sab’yn of the south emerge as rising powers, controlling vital trade routes and eyeing expansion beyond their deserts and highlands. On the Iranian plateau and Central Asian steppes, the nomadic Aparna stir restlessly, the Saka ride across vast grasslands, and the Sauromatians range their horse-archer confederations - all poised to exploit the fractures in the great Successor empires. Far to the southeast, in the prosperous satrapies of the Mauryan Empire, the people of Taksashila endure distant imperial rule, quietly nurturing dreams of greater autonomy.

Key features

Whether you seek to carve out an empire as one of the Diadochi, defend the Italian peninsula as Rome, lead a Celtic confederation against Mediterranean invaders, or forge something entirely new on the steppes or in the east, EB2 offers unparalleled depth and replayability.

Under development for almost 20 years now, it is one of the most ambitious and historically respectful experiences ever created for the Total War series. Step into the ancient world as it truly was: complex, interconnected, and endlessly fascinating.
